Week 6: Reflection

My Food Art: For my food art, I created a Caterpillar! I used Ritz crackers with peanut butter for the body, M&M's for the eyes, pretzels for the antenna & legs, and Froot Loops as some spots. Food Art Reflection Questions: How might these types of activities affect the development of children? This activity allows children to get creative and think outside of the box to creative whatever they can imagine using the provided food materials. It affects their physical development because they get to explore touching new textures of food. It also affects their emotional development because they will be excited to use food as material for making art, they also might be interested in seeing what their classmates make. In what ways could today's activites be incorporated into the curriculum to teach different subjects? You could incoporate food art into many subjects. Week 5: Reflection

Important Words & Concepts/Defintions: Fundamental Movement Skills-  Locomotor Skills:  Skills that require children to move from one location to another including running, jumping, skipping, etc. Non-Locomotor Skills:  Skills that require children to stay in one location including stretching, shaking, twisting, etc. Object Control:  Skills that require children to handle an object using smaller muscles including dribbling, kicking, throwing, etc. Perceptual Motor Skills- Time Direction Space My Dancing Activites: This week I participated in many dancing activities including the Cupid Shuffle and Cha-Cha Slide. We also added locomotor skills to the Do-Re-Mi song. We then created a dance movement with a partner for a lyric of  the"My Favorite Things" song. Our line was 'Brown paper packages tied up with strings' we decided to make a box shape movement with our hands and a tying motion for the string with a twirl at the end.   Important Words & Concepts/Definitions: Music in the Classroom- Allows students to be creative and provide brain breaks, also a good transition tool. Weekly Recap: This week we learned why music is so important in the classroom. We learned how it can be used as a transition and get the kids focused when switching activities. We also did a gallery walk seeing how our classmates would use music in their future classroom. My Group's Musical Classroom: Our group decided to make a big rug where students can explore instruments on their own. Then in the bottom right we have an area where students can make music with their friends. The top right has an area where students can explore instruments from around the world. Finally, the top left has an area with electronics and headphones for students to listen or record their own music. Important Words & Concepts/Definitions: Social-Emotional Learning- Includes developing skills such as awareness to yourself and your social environment. Also making responsible decision making and relationship skills. Mindfulness Painting-  Painting with no planning, let the brush stroke flow naturally. " Creativity Takes Courage"- From the Ted Talk video: meaning that in order for children to be creative they need courage to put their ideas out there, so they are not shy or embarrassed. Gallery Walk- Students exploring other's work by walking around the room. Curriculum Integration- Using one subject in a different subject area.
