My Dancing Activites:
- This week I participated in many dancing activities including the Cupid Shuffle and Cha-Cha Slide. We also added locomotor skills to the Do-Re-Mi song. We then created a dance movement with a partner for a lyric of the"My Favorite Things" song. Our line was 'Brown paper packages tied up with strings' we decided to make a box shape movement with our hands and a tying motion for the string with a twirl at the end.
Reflection Questions:
- In what ways did today's activity affect you?
- Completing these dance activities made me rethink dance in the classroom and how it can be incorporated. Before the classes this week I did not really think of dance in the classroom too much, now I see how fun it is for children and easy to add into other lessons or used for brain breaks. I also got to learn the terminology used for movement and the difference between locomotor and non-locomotor skills. Overall, I really enjoyed getting silly and dancing over the week.
- In what ways could today’s activities be incorporated into the curriculum to teach different subjects?
- Todays activites can be incorporated in many areas. You can use the "Floor Is" song as a brain break in-between lessons. You can use stretches to form different letter to practice spelling words. You can use the song we did in class about different animals as a science lesson. You could even do dance in history to teach the students dances from other countries they are learning about in class.

Hey Logan, I enjoyed reading your perspective on the dancing. It felt almost silly at first but eventually seeing the learning aspect, I was the same way.
ReplyDeleteI really like your idea of using the "Floor is Lava" song as a brain break!
ReplyDeleteHello Logan! That's a great presentation, and that was really fun being interactive as well!
ReplyDeleteI just so much enjoyed reading your reflection! Yeah, sometimes getting silly makes us so much have fun and bring joy into the classroom! I love so much your idea of stretching the "Floor is" song to teach the letters! In addition, as you mentioned using songs will be a great tool to teach history and cultural dance too! I will definitely add your idea to the slide for next year's teaching! Thank you for giving me a great insights!
